Application Event Sounds

When you open the Sounds applet in the Control Panel, you are given access to change the sounds associated with system events. If you scroll to the bottom of the list, you may find that applications like Microsoft Office have stuck in their own events, with corresponding sound files to be played. You too can add your own programs to this list by editing the Registry:

Create a key under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps (use the name of the EXE file, with its (Default) value as the name you want listed). Under this new key, create another with the name of the event (such as Open), and another under this one called .current. For the .current key, the (Default) value in the right pane will the the path\filename of the WAV file you want the application to open to.

This info will automatically be updated in HKEY_USERS\yourProfileName\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps (yourProfilename being the name of the user profile you are currently using). After that, you can just go into the Sounds applet and change the WAV files from there.
